It was announced today that Victoria Espinel, the inaugural White House Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC), has stepped down.

Victoria brought to a demanding job thoughtfulness, credibility and diligence. She was tirelessly inclusive and worked hard to listen to everyone who wanted to be part of the conversation. As a result, the Administration spoke with a more unified and informed voice on intellectual property issues, and spearheaded important initiatives. She will be missed and we wish her the best of luck in her next endeavor.

Just two weeks ago, the federal government moved to begin counting the investment in creative works as part of the GDP. It was long overdue and one testament to the economic and cultural contributions of the creative community. The job of intellectual property enforcement coordinator is more important than ever, and we hope the White House will move quickly to nominate a prominent and credible successor.
